We have a less than 1 acre pond. deepest part is about 8/9 feet deep.We wanted to drain it about 2 feet to dig out some of the silt and shape the banks becuase some area's too shallow and allow for weeds. When is the best time to do this and is 2 feet too much? Oh the pond is stocked w/ bass and bluegill.

It depends on when, (temperature), how much area is left, (obviously a 10 foot diameter area is too small, and how long. Your bass might love it, having all the baitfish so available. I would do it with moderate temperatures, quickly as possible when expecting a rain to fill it back up. Think early spring.

We try to do as much of this kind of work during the cool weather as we can. Cold water holds more oxygen and the fish are less active. I suggest anytime this winter when it's dry enough to get the job done.

may consider an aerator if drop it too much, may be more reliable than the cold water o2 content.

Would a winter drawdown help with algae problems? Our pond is 1-1/2 acres and 8 - 12 feet deep and I was thinking of dropping the level 2 - 3 feet first of all to be able to drag the sand back up on the beach but I have also heard that some algae problems can be helped by a winter drawdown. We have a problem (not too severe) with a blue-green algae that forms on the bottom of the shallower parts of the pond. Any recommendations on this? How many months should I leave the level low? The pond is stocked with bass, bluegill, & catfish.
