We moved to the property about 4 yrs ago. 1/2 acre was about 4-8 ft deep. Previous owner used chems pretty heavy to control alage and weeds.
We wanted to be green and the pond went green. lol.
after 3 years of half assed aeration, muck pellets and pulling algar and Chara we decided to dredge.
So here we are. ITs starting to fill now. I have 1/2 HP 3 dula diffusers on the way and Im adding structure to pond bottom for the fish.
Ordering FHM this fall and reading up on here to figure the rest out as I go.
Any suggestions and guidance welcome.
Located in Upstate NY. 1st pic is after it was dredged.

Esshup Thank you. The goals for this pond are three fold and they all conflict 1) Dog friendly pond / shoreline to make wife happy 2) Algae free (as much as possible) and properly weed managed. 3) healthy fish environment (FHM, BG and LMB )for wildlife to enjoy and the occasional evening bass fishing. Most important is.... make wife happy. PS I cant seem to load pics.

Smaller pond, but you can certainly achieve all 3 goals.
1) pick one side that gets the most sun to either be the scenic view with flowers and such or the deep water side to not have over growth of plantlife because you walk off shore and have steep steps so maybe 3 feet from shore you're at 8 feet of water.
2) One side is gradual slope for a bit, with the flowers and such, but then a deep cut around to keep much of the weeds/plantlife from exploding.
3) The fish will enjoy both the deep and shallow water provided you provide structure in the deep and cover running shallow to deep.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Pond bacteria boosters are good to keep ponds in healthy state and pond dyes are good to to prevent algae growth in pond.
