I wanted to clarify an above post on calculating cost of electricity. Best to use an example.
A fan uses 120 Volts and pulls 2 amps while doing so. (Either measure amperage with an amp meter or use 60% of the rating on the plate like the above post said. Best to actually read it with a meter for accuracy.)
120 V X 2 A = 240 watts. 240 watts = .24 kilowatts (a kilowatt is 1000 watts)
running it 12 hours per day .24 kilowatts X 12 hours = 2.88 kilowatt-hours.
cost of kilowatt-hour from electric company = .09 cents. 2.88 X .09 = 26 cents a day to run that motor for 12 hours per day.
