So went down to the pond yesterday and had some great fishing caught quite a few 18in and 20in LMB. We got to talking about the water how muddy it has gotten since we put the Grass carp in it to control the algae and weeds. Dad does not like that cause he thinks the Grass carp are ruining the pond by mixing up the water. I know thats not true but you can win against him. So now he does not want to put Channel catfish into out pond because he scared that the bass and bluegill wont get as big as they are now and it will make fishing for them harder. I need some good evidence on why CC are good for ponds and that it helps balance your fish population. We have a 1.5 acre pond thats 16 feet deep.

While a lot of people like CC I would not suggest them in a LMB/BG pond except in certain circumstances. A put and take pond with pellet feeding is an example. I have not seen any science stating that CC help maintain or create balance a LMB/BG pond.

I can't stand them to be honest. I have a LMB / BG/RES/HSB pond and it's been doing GREAT without any CC.... Wouldn't put them in my pond...

How many GC do you have? I have 7 and they are big!! And they don't mess my water up?? My pond is 1 acre.

Red eared sunfish and hybrid striped bass.

Most here will agree with your dad. CC and LMB are adding the same type fish. For every CC you add that is one less LMB.

They get big and are something to fish for at night. My son really liked to chase jugs around in the boat with a flashlight. They dont reproduce in our pond and could be removed if you dont want them any more.

Crappie not a good idea. Look at getting a few HSB to throw in mix. Guessing you all have some RES in there as well, if not get some of those too.
