You're probably right that I am overthinking this. But I recall being warned not to fish too much around the feeders, as the BG would begin to avoid the area due to bad experiences.
Probably the answer is the classic PB: "It depends." Every so often BG as bait likely would do little harm. Constantly, though, may be a different matter.
Anybody else want to chime in? I haven't seen this discussed elsewhere, am curious as to what the experts would say.
Hay there Frank, so I see u went with Overton's Lone Star Legacy lmb ? That's cool, great fish ! So, years ago when Lake Fork was the best lmb fishing in the country, Texas A&M did a lot of studies working with the Texas Parks and Wildlife. In one of the studies they put a transmitter into a very large double digit lmb. Track her travel routes where she made the same path everyday, same spot, same time everyday. They would fish for her and catch her in one of those spots whenever they wanted to sample her wt, health etc. She would bite on their presentation of the bait. I think they used a large shiner but as I have aged, I have picked up CRS disease. And as far as fishing around the feeders, At my pond the cnbg will eat beaded fly's as fast as it hits the water, the younger cnbg never give the older, bigger ones a chance at the bait. With all the new yoy cnbg at the feeder, it's like they have never seen the beaded fly before.
