A pound of fish would be 1/8 of a gallon. It might be a little high for bulk puchases but how many are you getting? It might be totally worth it, but I think we have some locals in your state. They should have good answers

Thanks for your reply! My pond is 3/4 acre when finished, I was thinking atleast 10 to 20 lbs. Im not sure how many i should stock though. Hoping to catch a spawn before the freeze this fall if i can get them in soon.

A.T.A.C. and Jones in the greater cinci area.
I use ATAC outside of Lebanon.
Also, ATAC sells Skretting feed.

Thanks for ur reply! I will look up the a.t.a.c. , I guess the real question is approx. How many minnows are in a pound if they averaged 1-3 in..

pondfanatic, it appears that you are looking ahead with some clarity.
I have no experience with FHMs and can't answer your question about numbers per pound, but from what I have gained from reading lots of posts here, two things stand out to me:
1. FHM without predation will multiply nearly exponentially, so one doesn't need to "overstock" them. I don't recall the recommended number of pounds per acre of pond. You may be OK at 10 to 20 pounds per 3/4 acre. Or, that may be many more minnows than you need.
And, more importantly:
2. It seems universally recommended on this forum to look at each and every minnow that you stock so that you are SURE no unwanted fish are introduced, such as LMB or BH or BCP or something else that will monkey wrench your plans for the pond. I know I'd be sick and tired of FHMs if I had to ID 10 pounds of them!

About 300 FHM per pound...PM sent

Cody Note: Number of minnows per pond depends greatly on how big those minnows are. Example: For those 1/2" long there are a few thousand / lb. When they are 1" long there are 600-700/lb and when 2" long there are 250-300 per pound. At 2.5" there are 150/lb.
