Been working on my pond on and off for about 8 years. Started off with many stunted bass and some good size res. 5 years ago started taking out bass and added bg. Bass started to look better, up until about 2 years ago and I can't catch a lmb to save my life. Bg are around in all different sizes also frogs are very plentiful this year. Fished hard all day yeasterday, and a big goose egg. Tried buzz bait, spinners, crank baits, and frogs on top of all the growth. It's a 3 acre pond. A few beaver have made a home for themselves, but I don't suspect they could wipe out an entire bass population. Also the location is in the middle of illinois. Any thoughts ????? ₩

joey d, how's your water clarity?
I certainly can't speak about your particular pond, but my first thought would be to go silent when LMB fishing gets tough. Worms (both wacky and Texas rigged), flukes, swim baits, and the frogs you mentioned are all good choices in pressured or forage heavy BOW's.
The increased forage you mentioned can also make LMB fishing more difficult as strikes due to hunger are diminished.

joey d, it might have just been a high pressure day behind a front, That will shut them off big time. But if what you r experiencing is the same every time you go bass fishing, it might be time for an E survey. And that has been and will be pond management @ my place. It runs a little under a thousand bucks around here, but it helps me see under the water, or a snapshot in time.

Get a minnow saine and make a few pulls around the banks. See if you got any small bass and go from there.

Same here. I even tried using a 5 inch BG with no results. Caught a 4 inch BG that was deep hooked with bloody gills and tossed it back in. It floated and flipped around while going about 60 ft to the bank without being molested. But I did get a couple of 13 inch HSB fly fishing. Caught lots of small BG on a piece of worm. But the bigger ones that hang around the feeder are hook shy.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
Without a sense of urgency, Nothing ever gets done.
