I have an old hog feeder on my farm that I could put in my pond as structure. It is a typical round feeder about 4' in diameter and about 4' tall, made out of galvanized metal.
Is this advisable or not? TIA.

As far as I know galvanized doesn't gas off or anything similar when under water. Others may have other input but I think it'd be fine.

I doubt that it would be a problem. I'd use it.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

If it's the same style we used on the farm years ago...
I would remove the small lids the hogs lift with their nose, leave the top off (or cut some holes in it) and make some nice size holes in the sidewalls for circulation and fish traffic.

Dave, I've been adding the galvanized livestock panels as movable cover, and have had no problems.

As I kid I spent years pulling fish out from around an old, horse drawn corn planter someone had shoved off in a neighborhood pond. Didn't seem to phase em'. That thing probably still has my old jigs hanging off it.

Thanks guys, I think I will sink it then...after cutting a few holes in it. Also, I like the looks of those cattle panel contraptions!

Scott, I'm low on hooks, so throw at them all you want.
Actually, they're placed in the feeder throw lanes. The LMB aren't happy at all, as predation on the CNBG went to zilch almost immediately.
