I finally got a chance to seine last night. I used a 4'x30' net so I had to stay pretty shallow. We caught a bunch of healthy looking CNBGs and FHMs. Got a few RES. No bass. My forage base looks really good. Bait fish everywhere, giant worms, frogs, and crawfish. Water is looking good. I just can't manage to catch a bass. Or see any sign of bass.
My uncle, who helped me seine, is convinced I have 1-year-old bass hanging out deeper with their mouths wide open gorging themselves. He said his similarly sized and stocked pond took several years before he had much luck getting the bass to bite. Of course I'm pretty sure his stocking methods was just moving natives from his big pond to his new small pond.
I've contacted Bob Lusk Outdoors since they are nearby and I'm waiting on Justin to give me a call to see if we can workout a quick electro-survey. It sure is tempting to just call Overton about adding 50 more of his legacy bass. Next time you talk to Justin ask him if the garage is still cleaned up. He will look at you funny, then it will click..... If it still doesn't click, tell him who told you to ask. My bet is that they are there, eating like crazy.

Keep every bass 13 inches and under.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Justin and Walter of Bob Lusk Outdoors stopped by last week for a quick electro-survey. I really enjoyed chatting with both gentlemen. Unfortunately, I paid for a double dose of bad news. As I speculated, my bass are gone. I also somehow got hybrid blue gills in my pond.
Everyone of course was puzzled. Best guess is a predator problem (BIRDS!). I've really tried to take a low maintenance approach to this pond and figured that fish have evolved over the years to survive bird predation. Of course, my bass likely never got a chance since they don't spawn for a year.
I still want the Camelot Bell or similar genetics because my intentions are BIG bass. I think it's too hot right now to risk stocking more bass. Todd Overton said he doesn't have the space to grow out his Legacy bass this fall. I'm hoping Justin can find a candidate to supply me with bass this fall. I'm sure someone is overpopulated around here.

Ouch HBG and no LMB. May need to stock some pure BG first.
