Just finishing up a renovation on my 5 year old, 1 acre pond. I now have a nice gradual slope from water line to bank. This pond is in my backyard so I'd like it to look nice. Slope is a mix of clay and poor soil. Ideas on best grass to plant? I was thinking of a perennial fescue with an erosion blanket over top. I have also found they sell erosion blankets with the seed already in it. The bank by the dam is too steep to mow so I would like to plant something that doesn't need to be mowed and isn't too agressive.

Entire bottom of pond has been cleaned and its filling fast.(who knows if it will hold water this time) Should I be proactive and plant anything in the water? When the pond was new, I didn't do any plantings. I do plan on aerating as well. Depth will be around 8-12 feet.

On the advice of National Seed, I planted a mix of Annual Ryegrass, Perennial Ryegrass, Red Top and Creeping Red Fescue on the shore of my N. Illinois pond and it is doing very well. They said it is low maintenance and it proved to be last summer.

Thanks Bill!!! How did you prepare your inner slopes before planting? Mine are very hard from recent excavation work and it has clay in it. Might be too steep for a tiller.
