... I thought it was interesting.  Working up north a bit on a project and was asked if it's OK to make some water flow? Sure, no problem. What's up? MDNR is stocking (hatchery) fish and increased currents reduce initial predation from larger fish when you toss 20,000 snacks in the water. BT were average about 6" coming out of the chute, but there are bigger salmonids in that channel that could gobble them up. I kept the water going pretty good overnight and most of the day today. Had to do some tests that stopped water flow, but the BT seemed to already make a home in the piles of rocks and concrete below the dam. It was cool!

Very Cool! Do you know if they made any effort to acclimate the fish in the truck before they dumped them in? I remember seeing the video of the plane air dropping trout into a mountain lake and wondering "so no need to acclimate?" Trout can take the change in temps and water quality no problem?

Had a biologist in Alpena once tell me they only get a 1/10th of 1 percent survival rate for stocked brown trout in the bay. He said the comorants and walleye do a number on them.
This was at least 15 years ago, so perhaps they've changed things or done something to increase their survival?

Didn't ask which State Hatchery they came from, but Oden State Fish Hatchery is the Brown Trout spot. Oden State Hatchery I would imagine the water is just as cold at the hatchery as in the channel. And, think they might know what they are doing. If you ever get a the desire to visit a state hatchery, go for it. They are pretty cool places!

Thanks for sharing JKB, that is cool that you got to see that! It was even more cool watching the fish swimming around by the dam and in the channel. They were hitting a lot of bugs on the top. Shortly after they were stocked, they moved into the much faster water closer to the dam. From what I was told, they tend to stay in a group at initial stocking. Stocking in static water, there would be a big cloud of fish for a long time, but in flowing water, they spread out. I only had to do one more position test on the dam today, which closed the water flow, but it was roaring again in a couple of minutes. I like these kind of projects!  Wastewater plant next week tho. If the wind ain't working for you
