Seeing one on just about every trip to the ponds. Saw one of the largest garter snakes I've ever seen with his jaws on a big bullfrog. I took a picture and will post it soon, but the snake pulled back a little under some dead bullrush I had raked out, just before I took the picture. It was kind of morbid as the frog, obviously worn out from the struggle, was totally alert.
I do welcome the snakes as I'm hoping they will control the moles and mice that are tunneling along the banks and the open yard.
I've also got literally thousands of tadpoles in the ponds. They are so common I can see them suspended in open water in the evenings at fish feeding time. It's obvious there are no bass in the pond as it's managed for trophy size bluegill and yellow perch. Maybe I should put just one in?
