We have had only one significant rainfall event since December 29, and it was almost six weeks ago. I have kept the pond high by pumping from our little creek, but now the creek has almost no flow. We are in an "abnormally dry" area here according to the US Drought Monitor. Hope it breaks soon. Every time we have had rain in this area lately it splits and goes around, or just misses on one side.

That sucks. I hope it breaks for you soon. In Ontario we just got a break from all the rain and snow. Hope to be on the land in a week planting corn.

It dose seem to be hit or miss any more with how hot the sun is.

We had 16" of rain in Houston since midnight last night.....be glad to send you some. Not sure how much we had at the farm, but with the large watershed it doesn't take much for give the siphon a workout. I think Pat W. up at Oakwood said he had 5" last night....no drought in SE Texas for sure...

Parts of NW Arkansas have strange weather at times due to widely varying elevations of as much as 1,600 feet between hilltops and valleys. Depending largely on the intensity of, and direction the rain events come from, sometimes our little area gets "rain shadowed" by the higher elevations to the south. That has been happening lately from one event to another. About three weeks ago, the watershed to the SE got over two inches, making our river (upper White) nearly bank full, while we only got 0.3 inches.

We went through a 5 year drought and Wichita Falls was recycling potty water. However, the last 2 years have been exceptionally rainy.

We just went thru a no burn order for 72 hours and it is Spring!!

John F, I try to get as much pond work done as possible when we've had droughts. Cleaning banks, adding cover, spraying emergent weeds, etc. Low water is never a good thing, but it does make it easier to take care of shallow water issues.

There has been rain on all sides of us the past two days, just not anything significant here.

Yep, in the last few days I've gotten better than 6 inches of rain. Both ponds are full, and the big one should be through spillway shortly.

I had just decided to lay a concrete slab, so of course...

But no complaints...not after the drought.

Oh, BTW Dave, Wichita Falls is in the process of laying the pipe to send effluent to Lake Arrowhead. Something like 5 million gallons a day. Just wait until the fish get hooked on the drugs in the water...that ought to be interesting.

You may end up with more female or intersex fish as it's been shown the estrogen from BC pills is still found in sewage effluent even with primary and secondary treatment.

ICYDK with many fish one can purposely produce all females or all males by adding estrogen or testoterone to the feed when they are fry before they are either sex.

I saw a study done in the Washington DC area tha showed this taking place in the Potomac River.

Dry conditions continuing. I am not putting out a garden until it rains significantly. Watering seeds two to three times daily to make them germinate is a hassle.

Most of the neighborhood ponds are down 1.5 to 3 feet. Mine is only 9 inches down because I pumped it, but the creek now has insufficient water to allow that. Needing rain here in NW Arkansas. If it continues like this I won't need to mow again.
