A few days ago I found aproximately a 2 1/2 foot gator in my pond. I threw the cast net on top of him twice and both times he was able to evade capture. Any suggestions on how to get him out to move him to back to public waters where he came from?

Don't have any ideas on how to catch him but I'd keep harassing it and hope he moves on.

I don't know what the laws are in Louisiana.

We have regular alligator neighbors show up in the pond in our North Carolina backyard pond. The state will relocate them if they are more than 6-foot, or if they are showing aggressive tendencies. My last alligator friend was never aggressive, and was only 3-4 feet long. It was obviously a "juvenile" because it still had yellow stripes on its tail.

Again, your temperatures are so different from ours, I don't know what will happen with a 2-1/2 foot gator. At that size, they don't usually present much of a threat to anything but frogs, turtles, and small fish.

In North Carolina, I would not consider a critter of that size to be any kind of a threat. I wouldn't feed it. I wouldn't try to befriend it. However, at that size, it will probably move on to other areas as it grows towards puberty.

Again, I don't know much about your area, but at that size, I would be more afraid of a neighbor's drug-crazed teen, or a neighbor's mal-treated dog.

I don't have any evidence to say that a 2-1/2 foot (30 inch) gator is any more of a threat than a 30 inch striped bass -- or even a 30 inch shark. But ...

Last summer I had two 2.5 ft gators in the pond. They decided to leave when a 6ft gator moved in.

Get yourself a couple of cases of beer, 2 buddies, a 10' seine net and a roll of electric tape. PM me for further instructions. Dan ps/ Now the beer is the most important part.

We've got new Pond Security Assistants. The two little ones (Al and Alie) are about 3 feet long. Big Ugly Uncle Al is about 7 feet long.

Ken, do you figure you'll try to get them removed or leave them?

Don't know if I want to be drinking beer while messing with a gator.... Yikes!! Maybe after... but not during!!!

Here in Fl I'm all the time watchin pest removers taking gators up to 4' with stout line, heavy leaders and big top water baits. Of course being PC they never show how to remove the lure. Probably a good time to have Dan123 and company over.

I see gator nuggets on the menu soon.....

They mostly just move along. I'm not sure if the big one ate the little ones, or if he scared them away. Then the big guy was gone on Monday morning. He was just here for the weekend.

They don't really bother us. They are less of a nuisance than the bears up in WV. At least these critters don't get into the trash. And, people don't let their dogs run loose around here.

About three weeks ago there were several news reports on gators killin gators. Seems it was breeding season and in gator territory it's just not enough to paw the earth and bang heads, There is a St park near named Myaka and several films came from there. They finally had to close several hiking trails that were too close to the water. Those bigger ones would just rip the smaller ones apart. Ken, bet the jrs were eliminated.
