mosquito minnows are the best bait in my pond, I have been reading and hearing about minnow traps. Are these homemade items or store bought? If homemade what are the suggestions?

Toby, They are storebought and too cheap (in my opinion)to bother building one.

Look for a cylindrical wire trap with one end being concave with a hole in the middle. The other end is flat. The ones I use use are 2 piece and join in the middle. It will fit in a 5 gallon bucket.

Aquatic Ecosystem (a Pond Boss advertiser) has 'em for $10 item # MT2 works great for fathead and small bluegill.

Round wire two-half minnow traps are available at Wal-Mart, Cabela's and other sporting goods stores. Good trap bair for minnows is fish food or bread.

...white bread works about the best, try to mold it into a tight ball so it lasts longer in the trap. (I like to use really old bread that has been in the freezer for months...)

I get trap bait bread from the day old bread store. It is bread too old to sell & they sell this for $2.00 per big bag. I use whole slices and buns in my traps. Big pieces take the fish longer to consume. Dried pieces as Potsy says also works good.
