Hi all, I'm new here. I'm Dave Davidson's granddaughter. I blame him for this predicament I'm in. You see...I tried really, really, really, hard to be a good city girl. TEN YEARS I've been trying to make a go of it in this town, smack dab in the middle of it. I've got my backyard chickens, my large garden, a porch swing...but this Spring, I told my poor husband I was going to raise 100 broiler chickens in our backyard and sell them at the farmer's market. He promptly suggested that maybe we should just go ahead and move to the country so as not to piss off the neighbors even more (they're already giving me the side eye every time I haul out another bale of straw from the back of my minivan). He says it's for ME that we're moving but I know he's equally excited to be raising some pigs and smoking the bacon himself. That's neither here nor there though. The real problem is that I've got these AMAZING childhood memories of Grandpa Dave taking me out to the country (me getting to sit in his lap and honk the horn on the truck the entire way) and introducing me to all the wonderful ways of the land. Cows, deer, and catfish...is there anything more exciting than catching your first fish at four years old?! So here I am, considering all these properties for sale, many of which have ponds on them. Guys, I know about chickens, and pigs, and goats, and grass, and compost...I know NOTHING about ponds. I need help. I don't even know the basics. I'm trying to catch up but need some direction. Where can I start looking for basic information on ponds in the Pacific North West? Specifically, Washington State. It rains a lot here, y'all. Standing water and overflowing ponds have been an issue on a couple properties I've looked at so far. I would appreciate any and all advice.
