Often one needs to actually fish for small fish with various methods while keeping records of species & sizes to get a good idea of the balance of fish community in a pond. IMO one should spend more time collecting forage fish information than larger fish information. The forage food base is actually more important than the predators. Without a proper and abundant forage base the predators are overall lower quality. Good Management efforts and records are not about regularly catching larger fish or one type of fish. Knowing the ratio of forage, pan fish, predators and their body condition are all important to maintaining the quality of the fishery.

A healthy well balanced fish community based on the goals provides one a long term high quality fishery to enjoy.
