Watch as my mom brings in this 5 pound HSB she can hardly believe it. She's acting like she's 12 years old again!! I love it! So glad she caught it, it made her day!!!
Hey Thanks everyone it was a hoot I'm telling ya!! Was so glad she caught it instead of me!! I think I get more joy out of watching folks pull nice fish out of my pond then me catching them myself! And yes she did hold it not for long though and she needed a glove!!
I set the fish on the ground quick so she could grab it and then I took the pic!! It wasn't easy for her but now way was she letting go!!! lol.. We let the fish go and it took right off fairly quick and seemed good to go so I think were ok there. Water was still cool enough for it to be ok I think!

The only difference between a rut and a Grave is the depth. So get up get out of that rut and get moving!! Time to work!!
Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:" "She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."
RC - any idea how old that fish is to be 5 lbs? By calculation with standard weight it is around 20-21".
Hey Bill I put those HSB in my pond March of 2012 and they were all 8 to 10 inches then. I did not measure this one but I caught a 4 lbs last year and it was right near 20 inches so I am sure you are right on with you estimate. We will be fishing for them again this weekend and going to clean one and see how they taste. I will get a weight and measurement and mouth gape as well if we catch one.

RC, great video. Must make ya happy to bring immense pleasure to the one who is responsible for who you are. when ya clean one ta eat, be sure to cut off the dark meat along the outsides.

Nice looking HSB. I put in a few small ones last fall. I hope in a few years, I have something like that. Did you keep it, or just keep catching and releasing? Do they get hook shy? If you do keep them, how do they taste?
9 yr old pond, 1 ac, 15' deep. RES, YP, GS, FHM (no longer), HBG (going away), SMB, and HSB (only one seen in 5 yrs) Restocked HSB (2020) Have seen one of these. I think that's about all I should put in my little pond. Otter attack in 2023
