I have seen great blue heron decoys on ponds and I think they are to keep the others away. I find herons on the pond regularly but never more than one. Does anyone know if they are territorial or not? I would really like to get a decoy to ward them off, but I don't know where to find one. I find a lot of dead fish that are damaged by these birds but not eaten. Too much waste.

not sure if a heron decoy will attract or scare another away. I do know you can find a decoy in Cabelas under confidence decoys.

Everything I have heard here says they are very teritorial but will crowd on an abundant resource. The other option, bottle rockets, they are very shy and like quiet places.

The problem with bottle rockets is that we do not live there yet. I will be building a house there in the next few years but we started the pond early. I chase the Herons off when I see them but mostly just see tracks and dead fish with big tears in them. I have been within 5 feet of one already before they finally flew away.

I ordered the Heron today. I have seen them on another pond in the area. There are a lot of local ponds I think I can persuede them to fish elsewhere.

The fake heron from thepondguy is in for 2 weeks now and works excellent. Well worth the money. I have not had any fresh tracks from my nightly heron and even the geese are staying away.

I just got one and was told to wait until May before using it because of the mating season.

It may be possible that it will attract a heron if put out prior to May. I read that too. But I had a resident heron that thought he owned the place and I was more concerned with scaring off the current problem then creating a new one.

I actually saw a pair of them start to glide in two weeks ago and then pull up hard and fly away.

If you do not have a big problem right now hold off. If you already have a heron coming in every day don't be afraid of attracting one. You already have the same problem.

My heron decoy has been out for a few months and is working perfectly. I move it to a new spot every week or so to keep the live ones fooled. I have seen heron's glide in and pull up. I am a beleiver.

Just ordered my heron decoy today hope it works as well as ya'lls, have 3 geese decoys also wonder how this will work. when i ordered it the girl said one customer called and said a real heron was eating his decoy, also mating problems before May----ordered mine from the pond-guy, Harvey
