I thought about having this fish mounted. But then , turned him loose. I dont know if I'll ever catch another one like this. The fish is not two years old yet. If he lives another 2 years, and if I catch him again, I wonder how big he will get. But , I threw him back.

There certainly are more in my pond than just this one.
I'd like to know what this fish has been feeding on.
He was caught clean across the pond, a long way from where I feed in the afternoons.
My guess is minnows and yes even small coppernose and whatever else he can get his mouth around.
Caught him on artificial bait, ( crickhopper).

That's a beauty man! Did you get any length or weight? Nah I didnt get any of that.Didn't have anything with me. I wasn't expecting to catch one like this. This is the largest bream I ever caught. I would guess 10 inches, but he was wide, and thick, and heavy. Lots of mass. I should have frozen this one and put him on the wall. I may never catch another one like this. But, I threw him back thinking he may grow a bit more.

I would have done the same thing.....unless I was really really hungry for a fish sandwich!  Nah, I would have still thrown him back and headed for McDonalds for a fillet of fish or 3!

Good fish! And I agree on tossing him back....they can grow a lot larger than that, and in a year or two he will be in greater shape for the wall!

Keep in mind that you can have the best of both worlds in a situation like that....carry a flexible tape, your cell phone and a fairly accurate scale of some sort with you. Take length and girth measurements, weight and take pics from several angles, THEN turn him (her) loose. Guys like Cecil Baird here can make phenomenal replicas out of what I just listed above. Jason, that's a beauty! I don't know how big your pond is but my BGs move around it all day but come back to feed at the feeder when it goes off.

Nice fish !! He will grow some more but not as fast. CNBG will move a long way for food in a pond. What are your water temps ?

I agree with tossing him back. I can catch 10 inch BG now fairly regular. Once they hit 11 inch and 1.5 to 2 pounds then put him on the wall!! That's what I am waiting for! Good looking fish tho and congrats man!! I am sure you have some more that size! If you got one your have more!

Beautiful specimen. Looks like you have some great genetics going on there as well. Keep doing what you are doing. It's obviously working. What parish in LA do you reside?
