Earplugs will work in cold temps, your body heat keeps them pliable. You got to know how to properly insert them.
Ear plugs and muffs will help when it's really loud, but communicating with someone is difficult.
One place I worked we had earmuffs attached to the hard hats. You had to yell at one another with your face about a foot from the other guy to be understood. 200+Ton mechanical forging presses made a LOT of noise.

I gotta find a car wash tomorrow. I think I brought all the road salt and sand from MI and IN down here. Had to stop 3 times in MI just to wash the windows and mirrors so I could see. Seriously, I could not see a darn thing thru the side windows and mirrors. It was terrible driving!!!
After going thru Louisville and Indy, I'll never complain about traffic in GH again.
