My line is currently running into a drainage ditch, at the time it was installed we didn't have any plans for a pond. It was a bonus for not having enough dirt to back fill after building a new house. Anyway the company that installed it said to run the line in the deep if you wanted the pond to freeze over or near the surface it you did not. I just don't know wich would be best for the fish.
