I have a small (1/5 acre) pond. It does not have a dam, it is a hole in the ground. We have recently had several big rains and the pond runs over and into a small gully onto my neighbors property. He told me the other day he has found six of my catfish on his property. They are between 3-4#. Is there any way not to lose CCs out of the pond? I suppose I could construct a small fence at the low point to keep them in, anyone had this problem, and was able to fix it? I only put 44 CCs in there, all that is in this pond is CCs and FHMs. I Don't want to lose too many, we want to fish them out with the Grand kids.
Thanks

Hey BigBuck,

Here's an idea. If the water always exits the pond at the same area of the shoreline, you could build that area up with rip rap. It would still let water out but keep the CC at home.

Good Luck,

Bill D.

Yep, build an excluder. Those are required when stocking grass carp. That's a fancy word for hog wire and Tposts

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

BigBuck, this is an early pic of rip rap area I have that I think is what Bill's talking about. All the dust has now washed out, and it passes water correctly. It works great for what I needed, but it will not prevent movement of fry in and out of the pond during high water events. Larger fish stay put though. If you've got nothing downstream that could contaminate the pond, then this might work.
