Thank you all for your thoughts. I don't know when these BG were stocked, but it wouldnt surprise me if it was many years ago. They've been maintaining themselves for years so I guess nature has determined that for survival this is optimal size needed.
I plan on setting up a feeder and see if I can get them bigger. I do wonder if genetics will be in play now though. Is it possible that even if I feed, the fingerling will still not get much bigger because they've already been preprogramed to only get to 6 inches or so?
Would I be better off fishing as many out as I can and stock more of the HBG? Or should I bring in some BG or HBG from a reputable fish farm to try to improve the bloodline? Will HBG breed with BG?
