Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Pond Plants for Sale

I was just wondering if anyone has any non invasive plants for sale for my pond in Texas. I was looking for some arrowhead, dwarf eel grass or similar recommended plants. I noticed online some plants can cost upwards of 10 dollars a piece and even after I ordered 300 dollars worth they got to my house and were dead.

I know this website is extremely helpful in many regards. I would much rather give someone on here my money!

Caviler, learn your plants, decide what ones ya want and then go wading. Creeks, streams, rivers, pond and lake shores should provide ya with all ya need.
If the plant rip business ya did business with won't refund your $ or replace the plants, write a nice long letter to the BBB.

You might want to give Cardno a call. They were formerly known as J.F. New. They do have an extensive greenhouse, and a wetlands that they use as an outside greenhouse.

I like what bob-o recommends. If you can already find the plants growing near you they will survive much better than plants that are not native.

Cav, I spent in excess of $1,000.00 for plants and after a poor return on my investment I have only 3 plants that have grown from that planting. My next planting will be from the plants I pick up from a lake close by. My Louisiana Iris and Blue Flag Iris have done pretty good but I got those from a different supplier. You might make a trip to a local lake and see what is there for the picking after you decide what you might want to look for. Just suggesting

The only thing that you have to watch for when transplanting plants is any invasive (to your pond) hitchhikers. Snails, duckweed, invasive plants that propagate with plant fragments, algae, etc.

And it's illegal to remove certain aquatic plants in public water in some states. I once removed some lily pads from a local public lake and found out later I had broken the law.

cecil you can come remove as many lily pads as you want from my pond and i will pay you to take them. Here they are very invasive. I am trying to use crayfish to help keep them under control with some success. I got the idea from Tim Matson the pond designer. If you have a home depot near you they often carry the blue flag iris, lousiana and the yellow iris in the spring. I have had very good success with them since they are potted big plants and have no shipping costs.

esshup, I was planning on washing all of the plants before planting, and would suggest Cav do the same. But, I can not guarantee outcome. Risk versus reward. HUM !!
Cecil, I have not checked out the laws here in Texas. Might need to.
