I have seen them on other maple species (Box Elder is a maple) and I think they also grow on Elm. One of their names is "Elm Oyster." I see most of mine on Box Elder though. They grow from most any scar on the tree. I have seen them growing 20 feet in the air. I especially like fresh ones in omelets. We also dehydrate them and use them when we can our spaghetti sauce when tomatoes are on during the summer or in other recipes like stew throughout the year. This year I want to try some battered and deep fried.
