My 1/3 acre pond dug last week now has a water level about 1.5' higher than the actual water table, and is slowly rising, about 2" per 24 hours.
It is 'just' flooding the surrounding area. I need to dig a trench to the ditch tomorrow (25')
Water levels in the nearby river are high, but not that high.

What I gather happened is the pond was dug so deep (14') that the groundwater is finding it easier to go up into the pond than to push through the silt layers. Does that sound about right? A pump was used during excavation.
While I have no issue with fresh water coming into this groundwater-only pond, I am curious if anyone has experienced this and has any tips, suggestions etc.
Thanks.
