Yeah after speaking with tech support (and asking for someone more technical twice because the person on the phone knew less about their solution than I already did) it appears that a VPN connection is virtually guaranteed not to work with satellite...which mostly makes sense when I think about it.

Guess I'm stuck with DSL.
