Last November I purchased a nice tract in SC Kansas with a creek and pond on it. Unfortunately over the past few years this area had been in a severe drought causing a fish kill and nearly dry pond. Since it had been so dry, the previous owner took the opportunity to have the pond enlarged slightly. Mainly dug deeper from what I could tell. Now it appears the pond has a leak and it's not coming from the dam. This pond is about 1 acre when full with lots of trees around it. Several on the dam as well that need removed. The soil comp is mostly clay however, this land has a lot of gravel mixed in. I'm afraid the pond was dug down too deep. In fact it is visible all around the bank now. I can remember 15 years ago this pond always held water and was excellent fishing so it has good potential. My question is... Will it ever seal naturally? As in could silt eventually seal it over the next couple years or am I looking at lining it? Really can't see where it's leaking to apply a localized fix. The rate of seepage is around 6 inches per week I would guess. I have yet to find where it holds due to all the rain we have been getting. The pond has been up down up down all year making it difficult to track.
