Been doing some in depth research on various health issues and diseases of fish, as I had major problems with some tilapia fingerlings I had overnighted to me recently. Hope to have a lab set up at with all necessary equipment at some point to do my own diagnosis. I do have some bacterial culture experience when I worked for a dairy lab years ago, and some college biology and a microbiology classes associated wirh my fisheries degree, and when I was studying to be an RN.

Anyway I found something intersting regarding dry fish feed and koi. Seems a problem that can occur with koi is constipation to the point it can be lethal. Apparently one cause is dry pelleted fish feed that swells when it becomes hydrated in the digestive tract. I've always wondered about that as there is substantial swelling of the feed that can be seen when I hydrate it in a zip lock bag. Initially a little over 3/4's of a gallon zip lock bag will swell to a complete bag after hydrating.

One more plus for my feeding of hydrated feed to my high value fish as it can't swell any further in the digestive tract!

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Agreed. I've also seen ziplocks swell up like a balloon when partially full of hydrated feed.

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

For what its worth when I bought and stocked my pond with feed trained HBG, LMB, and CC the person who ran the fishery told me to only feed 6 days a week. The reason being he was having some fish die in his ponds and they suspected it was from the fish food constipating the fish. He stated the fish needed a day off to expel things. There is nothing scientific about it but observation from a gentleman who has been running a hatchery for 30 plus years. He has not had problems since. I have not seen or read anything like it but try to give the fish one day off a week and have had no problems in 2 years.

Very interesting. I know we've had this discussion before - I started hydrating my feed after that. IMO it is working a lot better than before (not hydrating). Also the little tiny minnow get the benefit because to food breaks up easily.

Just do it...
