Fathead minnows are nothing more than a snack for bass in an established pond. It takes 10 lbs. of fatheads to produce one pound of predator fish. Biggest scam going for SOME hatcheries to recommend fatheads for an established pond. Bluegill are your best forage for bass as they very prolific and not as slow moving as fatheads.

Here we recommend fatheads in a new pond before the predator fish are established and allow them to reproduce for the summer. It will give the fingerling bass a headstart before the bluegill reproduce.

That said if you have a pond without bass it can work, such as a pellet fed yellow perch pond with only females perch such as one of my ponds. I having reproducing fatheads to provide forage for the perch in the winter.
