I fish my 2 acre pond every weekend. Mostly worm fishing. Bass are only 2 years old. Most I catch are in the 1 pound range, healthy looking, 12 inch long. Some 2 pounders. A few weeks ago, I caught a 3.5 pounder, in 10" of water, right in some cattails near my fish feeder. Scared the bajeezers out of me when it hit the worm. It was twice the size of anything caught prior to that. Evidently, he just lives by the feeder and gets fat on feed and unsuspecting bluegill. I also love catching Bluegill on my 3 wt fly rod with popping bugs or nymphs.
The dog days of July have slowed things down somewhat, but I can still go out in the evening and catch 8-10 bass. Even the bluegill have slowed somewhat. Fishing mostly unweighted finesse worms (junebug and pumpkin seed colored), in shallow water - so peaceful. I have some weeds in the flats and they seem to hang out there a lot, especially late in the day. When they hit that worm in 10" of water - man-0-man, nothing like it. I, too, de-barb my hooks. Nothing upsets me more than to gut-hook one and watch it bleed to death. De-barbing the hook really helps get them out of the gut. I miss more fish, but I've discovered it's not about the fish, it's about the time near the water.
