This water temperature was taken at 7:00 p.m. yesterday at the pond in SE Texas, 97 Degrees F....I see that all the CNBG, RES, GSF, LMB, CC, and BC stay well under the surface of the water in cooler temps. What I can't understand is how the FHM, Gambusia's, and GSH can stay on the surface in this heat...truly amazing. Any of you guys experiencing this same phenomenon? I pellet feed, and the forage base seems to be continually growing.

Geeze, that is not too far below the temperature I use to slow poach fillets when I make fish spread for tomato sandwiches.

I haven't checked water temps. However, yesterday I went outside about 2:00. In less than 10 minutes I was drenched.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

A few years ago we had pond temps in Indiana like that when air temps climbed over 100 F. for days on end. My yellow perch sulked on the bottom and the bluegills slowed down, but the smb were active! Couldn't believe it! Went against everything I had heard about smb!

Cody Note: I agree as long as the oxygen stays high the smallmouth bass will tolerate the 90+ degree water. Aaron Matos also proved this by raising SMB in a small Arizona pond.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
