The 1st pond attempt is a big sandy leaker, though we didn't believe it'd hold water without some real follow up effort when dug. In planning the 0.1 acre, 4400sq.ft., do over pond, I'll need to either EPDM line it, total pond cost $6900 or have lots of clay hauled in $7000.
My question: Roughly, how much does hauled in clay pack down? I'm using 2 units clay nets 1 unit after packing, need 18 loads. I know the packing can vary, but can I reasonably adjust my clay cost up or down? Assume a moderate moisture level. Also guestimating that a 10 wheel dump truckload carries about 400+ cu.ft. Hope I'm not off on that number.

Whahoo, I've found some clay, along with an experienced pond builder. Construction is scheduled to begin late Aug2015 for the RES only project. Also found an engineering site stating clay dug and repacked typically loses 30 to 50% volume.

Good luck on both the pond construction and also the RES only pond. I wanted to have a RES heavy pond with my old refurbished pond but nature had other plans. Am raising RES in a forage pond though, so may eventually get enough RES raised and put in the pond to get there.
