Dewayne, looks like a brown watersnake to me. Their color pattern varies widely, and they have many local variations. Sometimes they are so dark that you can hardly see the characteristic square blotches. 1-2 per acre in a healthy pond is pretty harmless, but more than that probably need thinning out. I'm gunning for one that visits my minnow pond.
