Just constructed my new Deck/Dock and thought some may be interested in how I went with it. The pond I put it on is 1/10 acre.
- 19 6x6 pilings Critical Structure treated for fresh water contact pilings
- Main deck 10x20 with a 6x6 bump out for swimming and fishing
- Railing around the main 10x20 structure
- Entire structure built in the water
- Shoreline pilings and 2nd run of pilings put down with 12" tractor auger. 2nd run pilings had 2' deep water
- 3rd row pilings put down with hand auger and extension (water was about 3.5' deep here). Could only auger down about 1.5' and then had to jet in the pilings with pressure washer. Because it was clay, not very successful, had to get a ladder and beat the pilings in with a sledge hammer. Ended up getting these about 3' down
- After the main portion of the dock had the beams and joists in, I laid decking out and put the 6' bump out in. We built the bump out on the shore and floated it out on a flat float which was perfect because it floated 1" off the water, exactly where we needed it. We tacked it to the main deck with screws and then put down 6x6 pilings in the corners by drilling the bottom of the pilings for 1/2" rebar for guides in the clay. We then put out a ladder and beat the heck out of those pilings and got down about 3' again. The bump out we just screwed to the pilings with 1/2" carriage bolts and cleats were put under the beams as added support
- I had 5 yards of beach sand dumped at the front of the dock for the grandkids
- During the winter the aerator will be put by the dock to aid in keeping it ice free
