I sprayed a diluted solution of Cutrine Plus on floating mats of algae a couple of weeks ago, but nothing happened.

I then sprayed undiluted CP on the same mats last week. The algae is still showing no signs of dying.

Why isn't the FA dying back?

Earlier this summer, I used a different brand of algaecide that killed the FA in a matter of a couple of days, but I can't recall the brand or the active ingredient and the place I bought it does not have any more. I think it had orange lettering on the jug.

Any input is appreciated.

I'm curious. Are you sure it's FA?

I'm not sure what you mean. It's Cutrine Plus brand name.

Probably a dumb question but, does Cutrine require a certain water PH, etc to be effective?

I've never tried the Cutrine Plus, I use bags of Copper Sulfate crystals and disperse the stuff using scoops of the stuff in pool skimmer net and long pole. Just walk around the edge of my pond with it out several feet in the water. The resulting cloud/plume of diluted copper sulfate in the water in pretty impressive. Algae starts dying within the hour and is gone in a day. I do run my aerator the entire time.

I just reread my post and probably need to clear something up; I don't use bags of the copper sulfate all at once. I use about 3 or 4 cups of the crystals in the net and with that I do probably 75' of shoreline. Then I add a few more scoops and keep going till that's dissolved. I do this about 4 or 5 times in my 3 acre pond and that does about half the ponds shoreline, maybe a little less.

Keep in mind that numerous years and years of treatment with CuSO4 loads the sediments with a precipitated bound form of copper carbonate a form of heavy metal. As this accumulates toward saturation level, the health of the sediments will be compromised. You may not see apparent negative effects soon but the next owner my see the impact. How can pond sediments be considered healthy teaming with invertebrate life when they are loaded with a chemical complex form of metallic copper at hundreds if not thousands of times greater than normal soil?
