In my understanding, FHM life span is typically a little over a year so they grow fast. The FHM spawn is pretty much continuous from spring until the water cools in the fall. One male will spawn with a continuous flow of females thru his nest so there are eggs of different maturity in the nest at one time. The male will keep the nest until he gets tuckered out and then another male may take over.
