Hey basslover!

Thanks for the great tips and advice! Many of which I hadn't though of so thank you! And thanks for taking the time! (see below)

And depending upon the interior material of the rental vehicle again, look to velcro to secure the PVC carrier, or alternatively, you can never go wrong using 2 cinder blocks to secure the carrier. And then you've got two seats or rod holders with them there cinder blocks as well. smile

I figured with the weight of the luggage on the shelf (above the tackle) it would hold down the carrier, but you're right that it could still lift in unfortunate situations! Side to side and front to back it will be wedged in pretty tight. but I can also use what's being packed as some weight on it. As far as the cinder blocks, great (universal) idea but just don't have the room for them!

You taking a 5 gallon bucket? You should. And invest in one of these:

A nice toilet seat to pop on the bucket.
5 Gallon bucket is on my list as well as a bait bucket, but never thought of a toilet lid for the bucket! Interesting!

Presuming you're already taking a roll of Gorilla tape and a roll of electrical tape? And some good matches?

Gorilla tape, duct tape, electrical tape and a few tools - CHECK! Waterproof matches is a great idea!

And a water filtration system?

Wow, never heard of such a thing! I'd be awful leery sucking up water from a puddle, but it sure got good reviews, and could certainly come in handy!

What else? Dental floss, signal mirror, solid first aid kit with blood clotting agent (I once had a fairly significant hook removal event and the clotting agent was beneficial - http://www.amazon.com/Adventure-Medical-Kits-QuickClot-Silver/dp/B001BCMLWQ/ ), antibacterial soap for all those wonderful fish y'all will be removing from your hooks. smile
Dental floss and first aid kit - CHECK But never thought of a signal mirror or a clotting agent! Great idea!

As far as removing hooks, I found this on Youtube! Probably not for the sqeemish! And personally I think the guy's nuts! https://youtu.be/zgfpsupmu98

Depending on bodies of water and surrounding land you may consider a snake hook. http://tongs.com/p_snakehooks.aspx Multi-purpose they are and consider the 45" hook.
I've certainly thought about snakes for where we'll be and we'll likely be camping some nights so that's another great idea!

Depending on the states you're traveling through a firearm may not be on your to bring list, but you should consider some level of protection and deterrent. If you're unable to carry a firearm consider bear spray.

http://www.bearspray.com/ Quite powerful. I've had it halt a charging black bear and more than one "neighborhood dog". Invest in the bear spray, not the personal pepper spray. The bear spray has a higher volume of spray, is stronger than personal pepper spray, and shoots a further distance than personal pepper spray.
We talked about a firearm but decided against it, but using bear spray instead of pepper spray? Wow! I doubt I could find that here in Nebraska but I would imagine as I travel through TN and into GA I may have better luck. Ordering anything now might be a stretch!

Again, as with a firearm, consider the states you're traveling through and identify any applicable laws to make certain you're in the clear.

Thank you again for taking the time, basslover! I can't tell you how much we appreciate all this!
