Okay, growing up as a kid (70's and 80's) LOL. I labeled perch that I caught into a couple of categories. Perch, Pumpkinseed, Bluegill, and HBG. As I look around and getting ready to start keeping track of my pond, it seems that I've mislabeled HBG for over 30 years. LOL. Oh well.....Anyway, I've caught some very nice (what used to what I've thought of as HBG) what are actually Green Sunfish. Now, I've realesed those that I've caught back into my pond. My question is, I'm new to the pond seen and want to have good eating perch/bluegill/sunfish along with those specie of being fun for the kids (as well as my wife and I) to catch with pop n bugs or with flys. What should I be culling out? Or should I be culling any of those types? Thanks for the help.

I think a lot depends upon what level of interaction with your pond, regarding management, that you are willing to undertake. GSF are hardy, superb fighters on light tackle, make decent table fare, and are usually willing to cooperate, catch wise. In some instances they may tend to overpopulate and become stunted, but here again that has a lot to do with the management strategy in place.

Can you post a few pics of what you're catching?

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Yes, I'll be taking a lot of pics in the next few days (Hopefully) if they cooperate. Weather has been wet the past couple of weeks down here. I'll take pictures of variety of what we are catching.

Awesome. Thanks a bunch. Hopefully I'll be able to do some fishing tonight and see if I catch anything. Weather isn't cooperating much and the "Honey Do" List is pretty long. LOL. I'll start taking pictures as I start keeping record. Plus I'm sure that I'll have a ton of other questions.
