We don't have vehicles that require the "$500" keys . I have a cheap flat spare made . Drill oversize hole in it. Duct tape to back side of license plate with holes aligned up.
Make sure you use screws that will turn out with a coin or screwdriver.
Saved us a few times in 35 years.
