Here's the potential problem with a water filled sand pit. You have porous sides. If the neighbor decides to pump his dry or sell the water, your water goes too. If anything happens on adjoining lands, you could have a dry hole. This is not an unknown problem in a water thirsty area.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
