We did our annual electrofishing evaluation yesterday. Bass looked good for post spawn. (15 acre pond).

We normally have lots of TFS but saw none. Last year we had plenty.

I wonder if the winter was cold enough here in Mississippi to kill them all off? We did have a big problem with cormorants for about 3 weeks back in December and January.

Biologist indicated that the BG population was plentiful enough that he would not worry about the TFS right now just keep an eye on it.



Any thoughts.

How deep is the pond?
Spring fed, or runoff?
Northern or southern Miss?

If your winter had some long really cold spells like ours did, certainly possible you lost a lot of them to the cold, if other conditions in the pond/lake were unfavorable. I'm not too far north of you, and lose mine regularly, even if the winter's not excessively cold.

I am in central Mississippi.
We have some places 20 to 25 feet deep.
It is creek fed no spring, just runoff.

What a difference a year makes.

After no TFS at last years electrofishing we had lots and lots this year. Also golden shiners large and abundant.

LMB relative weight improved. We did shock pre spawn this year so that probable skewed the results as compared to last year when we shocked post spawn.

I have seen that happen a number of time with TShad. Sounds like you are on track.
