I see your point and I see pictures of a lot of
underwater dock lighting that is way too bright.

I also see houses all the time with exterior lighting
that is way too bright...it's like "hello"
you are not lighting a prison you are accenting
a home...the lighting needs to be an after-thought,
unless you live in the hood. Less is more.

As far as underwater dock lighting..at night my options
would be to basically see nothing because the pond water
would be pitch-black or be able to see the pond water
glow just a bit. Plus you can use it sometimes other times not.

It's not for everybody for a variety of reasons,
but I want to give it a try.

I think the key word is subtle lighting.
