I've been thinking about what to do to improve the fun level and reduce the bluegill numbers in my pond at the same time. My boys and I have been unable to significantly reduce the bluegill numbers with fishing pressure alone and inviting friends and neighbors to fish has not produced any noticeable results either.
I believe I read about putting one Flathead in a fun fishing pond in a back issue of Pond Boss but cannot find the article, I know I read it somewhere. I also read somewhere about putting only one gender of Crappie into a fun fishing pond, again I think that was in Pond Boss. Expanding the idea to pickrell was my own thinking.
I put the Flathead in the pond when it was less than 6 inches long in the fall 2013. I caught it once and my son caught it once last summer. Now, I'm thinking I will remove it the next time someone catches it. Thanks again.
