I took a little break from all the neglected farm chores I'm hopelessly behind on to check out the pond since ice out. I always check out the overflow and am glad I did as I found 2 WE, 3 YP, and a nice HBG trapped in the rip rap. Because of the flow, all were still alive and pretty healthy--considering. I have a screen in front of the pipe, but apparently they were escaping through a 3 inch gap from the bottom. That's fixed, and there is now a second screen on the back side. Of course, I wonder how many made it all the way down to the creek. At the least, I now know the quality of my 'eyes. One was 14" and the other 13 1/2, and both were plump and healthy. I'm no WE life coach, but I'm pleased as I just stocked these guys at 6" fourteen months ago.

Fish sampling can occur by many methods. Good survival and growth of your walleye.

That's pretty darn good growth for just over a year! I hope I can get similar results.

I hope you do too. One of these days, I'll get ambitious and learn to post some pictures. Last summer, I saw some in the shallows that I estimated to be around 11". I attribute their good growth to all the minnows I have. Additionally, I have good really good runoff, and there's always worms, etc. washing in. The plan is to add a few more this winter and harvest some next year. I have to be careful though as these WE are now my main predator. The only fish I have absolutely no read on are my SMB.
