Stocked our pond less than a month ago. We've had probably a foot of rain the past 2 days. I have 8inches of water flowing over the spillway like a river.

Do you guys think I am losing (any/most/none) of my fathead minnows and/or bluegill?

Yes. I would bet so. Are there pools for them to congregate in?? A way to screen the spill way or is there too much debris?

Wow congrats on being full. I'm still 5' low and never have been full cause it just don't rain much around BuffaloTex . Although just got 3" today, that's the most since last summer

I'm heading up to Bowie tomorrow with a couple of granddaughters. I will find out tomorrow how much rain, sleet, snow and ice I got. I expect less than 3 inches during the past 7 or 8 days. But, none of it has been heavy so I'm not expecting much run off.

Around here, the ducks have left for dryer places. The ONLY GOOD thing is I might see full pool in the morning. All this rain is making it nearly impossible to build the dock.

You will lose some that get caught up in the current, but most try swimming upstream and not down, so losses will be minimal.

I have MAJOR amounts of water moving through this property and over the spillway!!!

It's moving the large rock I put on the back side of the spillway to control erosion.

Brian, my dirt guys got in exactly one day of work the last two weeks. Too much rain!

But I know exactly when the rains will cease, even without a degree in meteorology: When the dam is finished.

That's the problem we have been having . Slow with no runoff. Even with 200+Watershed. This ole drought is takin a lot of fillin to appease

Just giving ya'll a taste of my rainmaking abilities. That way when I come back in July the auction price that Al will get will be higher.

If the stocking last month was the initial forage stocking, I might consider restocking again. It would be tough to know how many if any fish you lost, but if you did lose a number of them, that could affect any future plans.

The worst case scenario money wise is you double stocked forage, and too much forage is rarely a problem. The worst case scenario fish wise, is that you have to little forage to get your pond started correctly. I'd personally err on the too much forage side.

Cav, I have enough of a problem stocking forage and after a couple of days I see very few feeding and so I ask myself "do I need to add more) if I was in your situation I would have to add some more forage and my reasoning would be, I just have to. You r prob. ok, but what if? comes into play

Do any of ya'll suggest a screen on the spillway? Would that be asking for trouble of backing up? Out of all that rain here in very deep East Texas we only got 2 and 2/10 inch. Was hoping for around 5 inches.

Flame, I wouldn't screen the spillway. Big rains can bring big trash, and moving water out of a overfull pond as quickly as possible is what you're after. A spillway blockage of any kind could compromise the integrity of the pond.

My mudhole came up about a foot out west. Much better than I had anticipated. We weren't there for two weeks and it was a nice thing to see. I'll be full with another 2 feet!

It is good hear about rain for a change, instead of the other way.

Bad news fellas, a few days after all the rain my pond water seem to turn blackish tent and found 8 dead perch floating. I have a few areas on my property that do not drain well and continued to trickle into the pond. . This water trickle if too was very very dark (almost black)

Well we just got hammered again today with 3 inches of rain and more expected this weekend. Anything I can do to prevent a major fish kill or any suggestions what happen to cause these perch to die?

I was only feeding once a day for one second before the fish kill. Since I have upped the feed to twice a day for 3 seconds each time.

Additionally noted, we had multiple cold days (including snow) water temperature in the 40s last week. Then as the rain came so did the warmer days got up to 80 here a few times. Water temp probably close to 70 degrees now.

Could the major temperature swing be my culprit?

I would doubt the water, only the first several inches will be warm. The lower water being much more dense will remain cool, and the fish will stay where the prefer to be. That is unless you have so much water flow and wind that the water is mixing, and with that kind of difference, it would require your pond looking more like a river.

It is probably the dark water coming in, which is sort of worrisome as in sewage? Over-stuffed septic tank?

Oh boy....here we go again. My ark is going to need pontoons.

I have 6" catfish going over the spillway which is a good but......makes me wonder what else is going over.
