Looking for any web site/or pics of constrcuting a treated wood dock for a 3 acr lake. My lake is currently filling and I want to at least get the base poles in. I have been told to use footers to hold the posts. Problem is, I am very inexperienced in this area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lance

Try this website to see a few pictures of my cedar wood dock, under construction. I sure hope the 6x6 cedar posts last at least 10 years in the water. They are bolted to 24" diameter concrete footings.

Lance click on my homepage I have some pictures of my dock under construction. It is 5' by 16' and I used 4 inch pvc pipe with rebar and filled with concrete for pilings very sturdy and will never rot. I plan on putting a "T" on the end and will stand on a ladder in the water and drive the new pilings into the ground with a sledge and a piece of wood to protect the pvc and then after mounting the frame pump them out drive in the rebar and then fill with concrete.

OK Jeff how did you geet from photo 1 to photo 3? It does not even look like the same pond. I love photo 3 and want to have a dock like that.

Missouri has several large man made lakes and when they were built much of the timber was left standing in the water. These dead trees have been in the water for 30 plus years. I am amazed that most of these trees and branches are still solid and strong. My best guess is these are Oaks and Cedars and they are do not rot when kept underwater.
This is why I chose untreated cedar for my piers.
I really have no idea how long my untreated 6x6 cedar posts will last. I imagine they will first begin to decay at the water surface.
Does anyone know of any old wood pier docks? How long do certain types of wood piers last?
