Should an unrelated industry set BMPs for this group?

I suppose not.

I have to read that later though.

My thoughts were left in a reply after reading the proposed BMP "idea". Looks like a thinly veiled attempt at an eventually regulatory sanctioned market share grab. I can not see how any BMP's could be developed on a national level. Climate, topography, geology, soils, owner goals.....all have vastly different needs on the most basic of construction techniques. I just can't see a one-size-fits-all plan being created, or accepted.

If they come up with anything like the Home Builders did, it will be a document that dishonest pond builders can specify in their contracts to cover liability and allow marginal workmanship. Example: I never realized it was ok if your front door is cracked clear thru as long as you can't stand back and see thru to the outside. A little putty is an ok fix for that. It's ok if the concrete floor and walls in your basement are cracked as long as the cracks aren't too big. If the patio concrete looks like somebody set a bomb off under it that's ok as long as you don't trip when you walk across it. Get the idea?

For a pond I could see, it's ok if it leaks as long as it's not more than an inch a day water loss!....I am just saying, let's see what they come up with. May be a CYA document for not so honest pond builders and may be a honest attempt at setting a good standard.

I looked at it and it appears to be more focused toward the backyard water garden/koi pond. I have no interest in their "best practices".
