Thanks for all the kind words, we are very fortunate to be able to build our dream home here. With the weather forecast I am seeing we will be at full pool in another week. I'll update photos once the rain stops.

So happy to report that we reached full pool 2 days ago and pond shows no signs of leaking thus far. The 100 lbs. of rainbow trout we put in 2 weeks ago are seemingly doing fine with no floaters and very tasty on the plate!

Congrats! looking good!

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

I caught this RT tonight. It was way bigger than any of the fish we put in just over a month ago. I have been feeding on a winter menu and I didn't thin they grew this much in the winter. This one is a 17" pig.

You have come along way. The trout do grow fast. Did you ever stock any kind of baitfish in there before the trout? I didn't stock any trout this year, kind of wished I did now. If that one is 17", I would think you should be getting some easily 3# and bigger by spring.

Fantastic. You should be so very proud of all your hard work and enjoy all of this with friends and family as long as you can. Bravo!

Cheers Don.

Geeze! I somehow missed you and your posts. So, a very belated welcome to the Pond Boss Forum.

But, what a problem! There are about three of us active on the forum in all of West Virginia. The other one is Todd3138 (Todd LaNeve) who is off I-79 near Clarksburg/Fairmont.

How will I know which WV Todd we are referring to? It will get real serious if we have one of our "neighborhood" get-togethers with our friends from Western MD, southern PA, western VA, and WV. After a few Peroni's, Sunil won't know who he is talking. Even without any Peroni, or maybe with some of my real cheap beers, I won't know who I'm talking to or about!

I'm in Hampshire County. My property boundary is the state line, just off US-50, between Gore, VA and Capon Bridge, WV.

Also, please take a look at the West Virginia Aquaculture Association Website. We are about to lose our state's WV aquaculturist, which is pretty serious for our state.

Regards,
Ken

We have about 4" of ice on now so it's finally time to build the dock. Its a little freaky being the first one to go out on it, I think I'll take a boat and a rope with me just in case.

Oh my! You are as far west in the state as I am in the far eastern part of the state!

I haven't had a chance to check the ice on my ponds in the last few days, but I figure it is probably pretty safe to walk on. It was +1 F degrees when I got up this morning. I don't think it has gotten above +12F -- +14F in the last four days.

What size where the stocker trout. Debating putting some in now, but not sure if they will have time to grow before getting too warm here.

They were all about 3/4-1 lb.

Wow they packed on some weight in a month. How much feed did it take to get them to that size?

I fed them every day up until it froze over. The one in the photo must have been hogging the food. The others are bigger but I've not caught another 18"'er. I was told they will double in size by late spring. They must grow fast.

That depends on where you are at in the USA. Throwing at least the city/state that your property is in into the "location" part of your profile will help.

If you are on he West side of Michigan, I'd sat Crystal Springs. But, if you are down near Dallas, that woudn't help much... wink

Here is the progress so far on the dock. Made it real easy with the ice on, was able to haul a few rainbows in while I was working.

Added a set of steps down to the water using old pieces of millstones. Used one of the crazy growing trees I cut down for a railing. Also added a bench on the dam using an old fireplace lentil that I dug up here on the property.

Looking good on the dock.

Nice steps and railing. Creative use of what others might throw away. Wife said "Oh cool, I like that."

My wife took one look at the rock for the bench and said "Niiiiice". And told me to get with it. She would love to have a bench like that around the pond.

Nice fish too. Trout are foreign to me.

I agree on the stone bench. Great idea and I just might have to do the same.

Cheers Don.
